  1. Clarify your goal

Living, working, investing or building a company — or a combination? The answer determines your residency route and structure.

  2. Choose your emirate and jurisdiction

Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah or another emirate; mainland or free zone. Each choice affects costs, activities and where you can do business.

  3. Choose the right residency option

A residence visa based on employment, business ownership or investment, or a Golden Visa — depending on your circumstances and supporting documents.

  4. Prepare your documents

Passports, attested diplomas, marriage and birth certificates, bank statements and proof of source of funds. Attestation takes time — start early.

  5. Prepare for your banking needs early

Opening a personal or business bank account requires a complete set of supporting documents. Expect questions about your activities, clients and the origin of funds.

  6. Arrange housing, schools and insurance

Health insurance is mandatory. School places in popular areas fill up early.

  7. Think beyond the setup

Who do you need to meet, and how do you find your first clients or partners? This is where a local network makes the difference.
